Answers
1)  Q What is MTSS?
A
From the MTSS website:

A Multi-Tier System of Supports (MTSS) is a term used in Kansas to describe how schools go about providing supports for each child in their building to be successful and the processes and tools teachers use to make decisions.

MTSS is a coherent continuum of evidence based, system-wide practices to support a rapid response to academic and behavioral needs, with frequent data-based monitoring for instructional decision-making to empower each Kansas student to achieve to high standards.
2)  Q What are the beliefs behind MTSS?
A
From the MTSS website:

-- Every child learns and achieves to high standards
-- Learning includes academic and social competencies
-- Every member of the learning community continues to grow, learn and reflect
-- Every leader at all levels is responsible for every child
-- Change is intentional, coherent and dynamic
3)  Q What is the goal of MTSS?
A
From the MTSS website:

The main goal of MTSS is for schools to use their resources in ways that enables every child to be successful. This is accomplished by:

-- Being prevention oriented: knowing who needs support as early as possible each year and putting those supports in place
-- Implementing evidence-based interventions for all students and tailoring interventions based on student’s needs
-- Using progress monitoring data to know when to make a change in instruction
4)  Q How will MTSS look at EDW?
A
At EDW, we are calling MTSS time "Eagle Success Time," because our goal is truly to have every child in our school succeeding at the skills that are best for them.

In 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades, from 1:30 - 2:00, students will have about 30 minutes of differentiated reading MTSS time.

Students will transition to their Eagle Success Time teacher, which may range from another 5th grade teacher to another grade level to a Special Education teacher. They will spend their 30 minutes working on the skills that that group requires.

The groups are meant to be highly flexible, with students moving from skill to skill and group to group all year long.

We will monitor progress every week through running records, games, observations, and short quizzes, and other forms of assessments.
