Answers
1)  Q What is BIST?
A
FROM THE BIST WEBSITE...

BIST empowers schools to change students’ lives and behavioral skills by:

Balance of grace and accountability
Powerful language to problem solve
Consistency in expectations
2)  Q When do teachers use BIST?
A
In addition to regular classroom management, teachers use the BIST model to help students who are struggling in class. BIST does not replace regular classroom management (like our $100,000 club), but is an additional resource for us to use.
3)  Q What is the BIST contiuum?
A
Verbal Warning: A verbal warning to a child who is being disruptive or hurtful.

Safe Seat: A safe place in the classroom, separate from other students, for a student to reflect on his or her actions. The student will usually fill out a Think Sheet here, and may not leave the safe seat until he or she has processed with the teacher.

Buddy Room: If a student cannot be successful in the safe seat, that child will then move to a buddy room, another classroom's safe seat, until he or she can return to the home room.

Office Referral: If the student is still struggling in the buddy room, he or she will move to the office and parent contact will be made.
