COURSE DESCRIPTION: Students will solve problems using the visual language of art while exploring various printmaking techniques and processes including, monotypes, linoleum cuts, etchings, lithographs, and silk screens.
STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES: The student will… 1. Synthesize elements and principles in art works and defend personal choices. 2. Articulate particular challenges and successes encountered in visual problem-solving. 3. Create art from conceptualized experiences with culture, time, and place. 4. Exhibit skills in the use of media, techniques, and processes to produce works of art. 5. Conceptualize and document the effects of history and culture on art. 6. Choose safe and responsible practices when using art materials, equipment, tools, and chemicals.
EXPECTATIONS: “Striving for Excellence” The goal is to create a quality art program that promotes student success. An individual of high school age should be aware of what constitutes socially acceptable behavior along with the responsibilities and consequences that accompany such behavior. In this art room students are expected to be courteous to others, follow safety procedures at all times, follow instructions given by the teacher, stay on task from bell to bell with assigned work, complete all projects to the best of your ability by the date that it is due, and clean up thoroughly each day. Failure to abide by these conditions will affect the daily grade and/or may result in disciplinary action. Let’s work together to have a great class!
ESSENTIAL:
REQUIRED MATERIALS: Pencil with an eraser and a folder for syllabus and worksheets.
EVALUATION: Evaluation and grading for this course will be based on the following: Daily lab grade, class projects, and written class work.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>DAILY LAB GRADE (0-10 points weekly) A significant portion of your total grade for this course is the daily grade. A weekly grade of 0-10 points will be given to each student based on participation, using class time effectively from bell to bell, clean up practices, following given guidelines for the assignment, and following safety procedures. This is a lab class and if you have an excused absence you are responsible to make up any work for full credit up to two days for every day absent. If you have an unexcused absence, you are responsible to make up any work for half credit up to two days for every day absent. Labs may be made up during the semester by appointment before or after school and/or class. Lab hours outside of class time are available to students to complete course requirements.

GRADING SCALE: 90-100% = A 80-89% = B 70-79% = C 0-69% = F
SUBJECT MATTER All work must be appropriate to be accepted for grading. Images must not contain sexual content, drug/ alcohol/ gang references, violence, etc.
ATTENDANCE:
HALL PASSES During class time, no passes will be given out to use the phone or vending machines. Student passes will be issued on a limited basis.
CELL PHONE/ HEADPHONES/ ELECTRONIC DEVICES No electronic devices will be permitted in the classroom or hallway. These items will be confiscated and turned in to the office.
