COURSE DESCRIPTION: Students will concentrate on skill level to create higher quality work with an emphasis on self expression, comparable to an honors program. Emphasis will be placed on creating a portfolio showcasing their work to use for scholarships and to enter a fine arts college program.

2. Advance your ability to make informed judgments about visual problem solving.
3. Advance your own unique way of communication using the visual language of art.
4. Focus on specific materials, media, and processes associated with two-dimensional art.
5. Research the effective ways that others have solved similar problems throughout history.
6. Follow correct studio safety procedures.
“Striving for Excellence”
The goal is to create a quality art program that promotes student success. An individual of high school age should be aware of what constitutes socially acceptable behavior along with the responsibilities and consequences that accompany such behavior. In this art room students are expected to be courteous to others, follow safety procedures at all times, follow instructions given by the teacher, stay on task from bell to bell with assigned work, complete all projects to the best of your ability by the date that it is due, and clean up thoroughly each day. Failure to abide by these conditions will affect the daily grade and/or may result in disciplinary action. Let’s work together to have a great class!

Evaluation and grading for this course will be based on the following:
Daily lab grade, projects, written class work, and final exam (digital portfolio).

A significant portion of your total grade for this course is the daily grade. A weekly grade of 0-10 points will be given to each student based on participation, using class time effectively from bell to bell, clean up practices, following given guidelines for the assignment, and following safety procedures. This is a lab class and if you have an excused absence you are responsible to make up any work for full credit up to two days for every day absent. If you have an unexcused absence, you are responsible to make up any work for half credit up to two days for every day absent. Labs may be made up during the semester by appointment before or after school and/or class. Lab hours outside of class time are available to students to complete course requirements.

90-100% = A
80-89% = B
70-79% = C
0-69% = F
All work must be appropriate to be accepted for grading. Images must not contain sexual content, drug/ alcohol/ gang references, violence, etc.
During class time, no passes will be given out to use the phone or vending machines. Student passes will be issued on a limited basis.

Electronic devices may be used by advanced students unless these devices cause problems detrimental to the class environment.
