State Dental Screening
In compliance with the Kansas State Statute, all students will be participating in a free dental screening on Sept. 16th, 2011. All students will be screened unless the parent does not want their child to participate. The screening will be provided at your child’s school during the school day and will be at no charge. This brief exam does not involve X-rays or replace the need for regular exams by a dentist. This screening does help identify those that need treatment and parents will be notified if dental care is recommended. It is also an opportunity for the state to collect data on the status of dental health in Kansas school children. Oral health is an important part of children’s overall health, and is a critical component in their ability to learn and succeed at school. If you wish to opt out of the screening process, please contact the school nurse at 913-442-4036 ext. 1407.

Vision and Hearing Screenings
Health Screenings for EDW will be held in the month of September. Children who do not initially pass were then re-screened the end of September through the beginning of October. You only should have received notification if your child DID NOT pass the screenings. The Kindergarten class will be screened in both hearing and vision. First, third, and fifth graders will have their hearing screened. Second and fourth will have their vision screened. If your child has an IEP or receives Title services, they too will have vision and hearing tests.
