Medications

NO medication, including Tylenol or cough syrups, will be given by the school nurse or his/her designee unless we have a signed Parent Permission form on file in the nurse's office (forms are available from the school nurse).

We cannot administer doctor-prescribed medication unless the prescription is current. The medicine must be in the original prescription container and taken to the nurse's office.

The following instructions must accompany all medication:

  • Student's name
  • Name of medication and dosage
  • Special directions or instructions

The school nurse will be responsible for giving the medication if she/he is in the building. If the nurse is not available, a secretary will supervise the student taking the medication.

It's preferred that inhalers for asthma be kept in the nurse's office. With a signed doctor's prescription and signed parental consent, the child may carry the inhaler. He/she must demonstrate to the nurse the use of the inhaler, and provide a back-up inhaler for the nurse's office.

NO other medicine should be kept with the student in his or her classroom. This district policy is for the protection of our students. Please understand that we do not make exceptions to this policy.
