American Government Syllabus  

Course Description:  American Government has three (3) objectives. American Government will concentrate on the different political and economic structures, the basic framework of our American federal system and the duties and responsibilities of the American citizen in the government. We will look extensively at the upcoming  election, the candidates, the issues and our role as American citizens in the political process.

Course Objectives:

  1. TLW be able to explain, distinguish, and debate the merits of the various economic and political systems.
  2. TLW dissect, reconstruct, and criticize the basic framework of the American federal system of government.
  3. TLW demonstrate responsible citizenship.

 

Assessments:

Assessments will occur in a variety of ways ranging from daily assignments, notebook checks, quizzes, tests, projects, vocabulary and current events assignments.

 

Grading Scale:

 

  A  = 90-100%

  B  = 80-89%

  C  = 70-79%

  F  = 69%- below

 

Quarter/Semester Grades:

Each quarter is derived by the following calculation:

  Tests/Quizzes/Projects will be 60% of the quarter grade

  Homework/Class work will be 30% of the quarter grade

  Notebooks/Participation will be 10% of the quarter grade

 

The semester grade will be derived from the following calculation:

  Each quarter (1&2) will be 40% of your semester grade

  Quarter/Semester exam will be 20% of your semester grade
