COURSE

 

This is second half of Algebra 1. Students will study mathematics that deal with the following: language of algebra, integers, adding and subtracting of equations, multiplication and division of equations, probability and proportions, functions and graphs, linear equations, powers and roots, polynomials, factoring, quadratic and exponential functions, inequalities, and system of equations.  Concepts will be modeled with real-life applications when appropriate. There wil high emphasis on state standards and state assessment.

 

EXPECTATIONS

 

As any high school class, you will act age appropriate and be a responsible young adult.  Various skills will be learned that are valuable tools in the real world and assist you reaching your lifelong dreams.  You will adhere to the four following expectations:

 

•1.   Respect yourself, your school, and others.

•2.   Maintain a positive attitude.

•3.   Work hard.

•4.   Have fun!!

 

Your responsibilities include:

 

•·   Daily supplies-pencils, notebook, calculator, text.

•·   Be on time-be in your seat when the bell rings.

•·   No food in the classroom.

•·   Follow the student guidelines for behavior in the handbook.

•·   Remain in your seat until dismissed.

 

Consequences for those who do not follow the rules will be according to the handbook and will include: conferences, detentions, referrals, and suspensions.

 

GRADING POLICY

Tests/Quizzes---48% of your grade-One test per unit and multiple quizzes.

Assignments---32% of your grade-this will include homework, classwork, projects.

Quarter Final---20% of your grade.

   

Homework-will be assigned and collected daily-will be graded by effort and/or accuracy.  Completed and on-time homework will be rewarded with 10 points. Completed and late homework will be awarded 5 points. Must be legible.

 

Notebooks-not graded, but at times quizzes will be open note.

 

Calculators are strongly recommended on a daily basis.

 

ABSENCES

 

You are responsible for your makeup work and notes if you are absent.  Unexcused absences will result in half credit. Attendance and commitment are essential to success in school and also most other areas of life.

 

HALL PASSES

 

Students must have their agenda to leave the room. Excessive use of the agenda will result in loss of privileges.

 

EXTRA HELP

 

There will be daily class time for questions and extra help.  Also, seminar, before and after school is available as needed.

 

ELECTRONIC DEVICES

 

The student handbook outlines the rules and regulations for electronic devices.  Cell phones, ipods, mp3 players, and other electronic devices are not to be used during class time.
