Miss Becky is the Special Needs Manager for our center.  Head Start is proud to meet the needs of all our children. Each year, every child goes through a First Steps Screening at the beginning of the school year. This screening is a great tool to look at cognitive, motor, language and speech of each child. A child may fall in the green, yellow or red areas of each category. If they are in the red area in speech or language or in two other areas, the disabilities coordinator will contact the parent. The child may be followed up with our LEA (Local Education Agency) which is McDanield Learning Center in the Bonner Springs/Edwardsville school district. We work closely with their Speech Pathologist in testing and servicing our children. If speech services are needed, the Speech Pathologist will serve the child here at Head Start. If a child is put on an IEP (Individual Education Plan), that will allow them when they start Kindergarten and services will continue as long as they are needed. We are here to meet each child's individual needs and to serve them how they are needed.
