Bonner Springs USD 204 Faculty:
The Bonner Springs Family YMCA founded on Christian principles, is a charitable organization with an inclusive environment committed to enriching the quality of family, spiritual, social, mental and physical well-being. For 8 years, our Bonner Springs Family YMCA has been in the business of shaping lives. As our society undergoes change, the YMCA provides a place where traditional values (Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility) and friendship are an inherent part of all we do; we build strong kids, strong families and a strong community.
Equally important, YMCA programs are open to everyone regardless of race, religion, sex, ability and/or financial condition. As a not-for-profit we are committed to turning no individual or family away due to an inability to pay the stated fees. Each year donor gifts allow our organization's volunteers and staff to reach out to hundreds of people in our Bonner Springs community!
I am asking you to make a pledge donation to our Annual Mission Campaign in 2010. These dollars will go towards our Bonner Springs Family YMCA and will serve the children and families in our community.
My goal is to reach a $1,000 total from all USD 204 Staff pledging in 2010 and together, the YMCA and I want to acknowledge you all with the support you give our YMCA with a 2' x 6' banner that will be raised in our center to represent you and your support!
If you have any questions, please feel free to stop by the front desk on your next visit to the YMCA or contact me at 913-422-9348. Thank you for your consideration, generosity and support.
Sincerely,
Matt Eaves
Center Executive Director
Bonner Springs Family YMCA
The District childcare has openings for the 2010-2011 school year on a first come first serve basis. Call 913-422-9126 if you are interested in care for your child for next school year.
It's getting to be that time of year again when things are winding down for the students but get busier for the teachers and administrative staff. Some things never change!
Unfortunately, due to the state budget, this is not a happy time for many of us either. However, there are still some teachers who need to continue earning their CEU's, so once again I have the K-State Brochure for Educators attached below.

Serving While Learning: Student Civic Engagement
Anna Weinstein, education.com
If you have a child in high school, chances are you'll be hearing something about civic engagement or outreach or service learning. Maybe your child will participate in a community clean-up day, or spend 30 hours over the course of a semester helping out at a local shelter.

Getting Personal with Technology
How a South Carolina elementary school has used computers to engage students in a learning process calibrated to their individual needs and abilities.
Grace Rubenstein, SchoolNutrition.org
When you walk into any given classroom at Forest Lake Elementary
School, in Columbia, South Carolina, you see there is no one thing
happening. Children might be reading books, practicing math skills on a
computer, creating videos with a Flip cam, contributing to the class
blog, producing PowerPoint slide shows, or reviewing suffixes and
prefixes on an interactive whiteboard -- often all in the same room.

eristic e-RIS-tik, adjective:
1. Pertaining to controversy or disputation; controversial.
2. Of argument for the sole purpose of winning, regardless of the reason.
noun:
1. Argument for the sole purpose of winning, regardless of the reason.
2. The art of disputation.
This factor is a leading characteristic that separates eristic
dialogue from persuasion dialogue. In the quarrel, there is an
appearance of paying attention to a logical assessment of the issue by
weighing the arguments on both sides (as if the dialogue were, say, a
critical discussion.) But this appearance is a sham.
-- Douglas N. Walton, Appeal to Popular Opinion
Both disputants attain their object in well-conducted argument, though not in
eristic, for both cannot be victorious.
-- Aristotle
We're offered ways to seduce, avoid conflict, manipulate the present tense to succeed at work, write speeches and even use
eristic techniques to stop a U.S. cop from issuing us with speeding fines.
-- Peter Kimpton, Review: Thank You For Arguing, Guardian.co.uk.
Eristic relates both to Eris, the Greek goddess of strife, as well as what Plato called
eristic dialogue, a type of discourse with no reasonable goal beyond winning the argument.

May 10, 1990:
China releases Tiananmen Square prisoners
The government of the People's Republic of China announces that it is
releasing 211 people arrested during the massive protests held in
Tiananmen Square in Beijing in June 1989. Most observers viewed the
prisoner release as an attempt by the communist government of China to
dispel much of the terrible publicity it received for its brutal
suppression of the 1989 protests.
